Warriors test the water at Top Barn

Warriors ended their first four-week block of intensive pre-season training with a trip to Top Barn Activity Centre.

The players tried their hand at some archery and kayaking as well as orienteering and team building activities at the complex in Holt, Worcestershire.

Strength & Conditioning Coach Ryan Fisher said: “The day was a chance for the players to work together as a team and for the coaches to see who can step up as leaders.

“It’s a good opportunity for the lads to get to know each other. This is an entirely different environment from what they’re used to and they’ve got to rely on each other to complete different tasks.

“That teamwork will be hugely beneficial when they’re out on the rugby pitch.”

With a number of new faces having joined the Sixways set-up over the summer, the afternoon witnessed the players team up in pairs and groups as they looked to complete respective tasks and activities.

And full-back Ben Howard explained: “The day at Top Barn provided us with a platform to develop an array of skills outside of our normal environment and there was also an emphasis on having fun which helps us stay motivated during our pre-season campaign.”

Scrum-half Charlie Mulchrone added: “It’s good to get a change of scenery and work on some different tasks.
“We nailed the orienteering. The guys were on top form working out the puzzles.”

General Manager of Top Barn Activity Centre Rob Delahay said: “The players all did really well and were very competitive which is what you’d expect from Premiership athletes.

“They definitely got something out of the day in terms of team building and leadership and even some of the top heavy boys managed to kayak round the lake without falling in too much!”

Warriors’ first pre-season match kicks off on Saturday 5 September against the world-famous Barbarians at Sixways.

And Coach Fisher confirmed the players will be back for another demanding four-week block of training next week before the big test.

He stated: “The idea of the day was to give the boys a bit of a training stimulus. They’ll now have a week to rest before another intense period of training ahead of the Baabaas clash.”
