Under 16s in 100 per cent success at Northern Academies Festival

Warriors Under 16s enjoyed three wins out of three in the Northern Academies Festival at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield on Friday.

The youngsters beat both Newcastle Falcons and Leicester Tigers by three tries to one, as well as triumphing over Yorkshire Carnegie by five tries to one.

After a great ten-try performance against Northampton Saints the previous week, it’s been a promising pre-season for the young age-group side.

And Academy Outreach Co-ordinator Dan Lyne praised the youngsters for their efforts.

He said: “It was a fantastic afternoon for the young lads. To only concede three tries in three matches is a testament to their hard work and commitment.

“By the end of the day we had a bit of a makeshift side with some centres having to play in the back-row but everyone played their part and they all worked for one another.

“Ollie Thorneywork led the side really well and Alex Bartley had a fine afternoon running in four tries.”
