King’s School 32-3 Royal Grammar School

King’s School Worcester retained the Modus Challenge Cup in emphatic form defeating Royal Grammar School Worcester 32-3 at Sixways.

Dion King capped an eventful night with two individual tries after scores from James Smalley and Josh Fellows had put King’s in the ascendancy.

Watched on by former England captain Phil Vickery and a strong following from both schools, it was King’s who started brightly and opened the scoring with two Tom Deehan penalties.

RGS fought back with their half-back combination working to good effect as scrum-half Nathaniel Nott and Warriors Under 18 youngster Josh Nott pushed King’s back, with captain Angus Thomas bagging three points with the boot.

But King’s were first to cross the line as Fellows finished off a move out on the wing but Deehan missed the conversion.

RGS ended the half on a positive note, playing the phases before Ben Hughes was tackled into touch. King’s winger King then received a yellow card for a deliberate offence at the breakdown.

King’s turned the screw in the second-half though as their imposing set-piece pushed their opponents back.

Lock Smalley went over from a perfectly executed lineout drive and Deehan added the conversion.

It was then the turn of centre Will Hollis to race through and feed King who outpaced the defence to score his first of the evening with Deehan converting once again from a tight angle.

And despite the roars of 'Green Army' from the RGS faithful, it was King’s who finished in style.

King made a 50-metre break before being tackled, but the ball was returned to him and he added his second with flanker George Mann converting.

King's Coach Jonny Mason said: “We’re delighted to record such a high-score.

“It’s a great opportunity to play in a stadium on such a pristine pitch and we’re grateful to Warriors for their continued support in this fixture.”
