REPORT – Warriors U18 24-0 Yorkshire Carnegie U18

Warriors Under 18s made a flying start to their Aviva Premiership Under 18 Academy League campaign with a convincing 24-0 win over Yorkshire Carnegie on the A&H Pitch at Sixways.

George Wootten and Ted Hill crossed the line before half-time after an Ollie Allsopp penalty had given Warriors an early lead.

And the domination continued in the second-half with Stan Mayne finishing off a strong move with Allsopp adding the extras to complete the rout.

Warriors opened the game with a spell of early pressure, kicking to the corner to win successive lineouts but were unable to capitalise as the Yorkshire defence held strong.

But Warriors were able to open up a lead minutes later when Allsopp chose to go for the posts after a breakdown infringement went against the opposition.

The first try of the game came after 27 minutes with a Warriors lineout drive allowing scrum-half Wootten to dot down. Allsopp added the conversion.

And moments later Warriors added their second try with Hill finishing off a strong break as they took a convincing lead into half-time.

Warriors showed no signs of slowing down in the second-half although the weather did its best to disrupt the flow with sheets of rain forcing a number of handling errors from both teams.

But Mayne added the third try with a fine solo effort, as the winger stepped inside and skipped past the defence before Allsopp converted again.

Yorkshire were unable to assert any real pressure on the Warriors defence which was well marshalled by captain Zac Xiourouppa.

And the home side continued to dominate the set-piece, winning a number of scrums and lineouts in the opposition 22 but fell short of recording a try-bonus point in difficult conditions as time ran out.

Tom Dodd of Warwick School said: “It was a pleasing performance. We scored a few good tries and our scrums and lineouts in particular were dominant.

“Hopefully we can keep winning and take the positives into the next game. We want to make sure everyone in this league knows who we are.”
