Barry – Supporters have a massive role

Warriors lock Darren Barry insists the Sixways supporters have a massive role to play for the remainder of the 2015/16 Aviva Premiership season.

Dean Ryan’s side sit just two points above the drop zone after last weekend’s loss to Bath Rugby but Barry believes the home support can push the side over the line this Saturday when they host Sale Sharks (kick-off 3pm).

He said: “The fans have a massive role. The noise at the end last weekend was phenomenal and it really does get the adrenaline going and gives you that extra ten per cent.

“It might sound cliché but it’s like having a 16th person on the pitch. That extra ten per cent per person can count for a lot and the support doesn’t go unnoticed by the players.

“We’re certainly doing our best to get out of this position and I’m sure we’ll turn it round eventually. We just need everyone behind us every step of the way.”

With a strong Sale side heading to town today including the likes of England man Danny Cipriani and Josh Beaumont, Barry knows there’s another stern test ahead.

He explained: “Their back row need to be looked after as they have the potential to turn over a lot of ball if we're not strong enough at ruck time.

“And obviously they have Cipriani at fly-half and a lot of people think he should be playing in the Six Nations so those areas will be key.

“But we’ve got another opportunity in front of another big home crowd and we’ll be looking to produce another good performance, but most importantly we want to get that win.”

With South Africa internationals Dewald Potgieter and Francois Hougaard coming into the side, and playing alongside Ireland legend Donncha O’Callaghan, Barry admits it’s great to learn from such experienced players that have competed at the top level for so long.

He added: “You try and pick up these little things from the guys that have been there and done that.

“How they train day to day and look after themselves is one of the biggest learning curves you get from those guys.”

Adult tickets for Saturday’s match start from just £20, with Junior tickets available from just £10. To book your place at the game, click here, visit the Sixways Store or call 01905 459309.
