Heem – We’ve added Super Rugby to our game!

Winger Bryce Heem insists Warriors have added ‘a bit of Super Rugby’ to their game after winning three of their last four matches.

Heem, who moved to Sixways from Super Rugby outfit Waikato Chiefs, believes Warriors’ recent upturn in form has coincided with the arrival of South African international Francois Hougaard, who has injected pace into the side.

He said: “With Francois coming in it’s added a bit of Super Rugby to our game. He’s so quick to the breakdown and it allows us to play really good, expansive football.

“The speed of Super Rugby is fast and once the ball hits the ground, it’s back up and you’re playing off it.

“The ball is so quick, you get lots of line breaks and it’s difficult to defend.

“And that’s something I think we’ve added to our game. We’re trying to play a good brand of rugby and it’s a style that people want to watch and a style we want to play.”

Warriors travel to Twickenham Stoop this Saturday to face Harlequins, in which Dean Ryan's side will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce.

And Heem added: “They’re a classy side and dangerous on the counter. When we last played them we didn’t really play the way we wanted in the first half but we did in the second period and came close to winning.

“We have to learn from past mistakes and from losing those games, the boys have felt the hurt and nobody wants it again.

“So if we do our homework and everybody’s raring to go, we can make it three wins on the trot.”

Warriors picked up an impressive 28-20 win over local rivals Gloucester Rugby last weekend, with Heem bagging a brace of tries.

But the pacey back paid tribute to his forward pack following the win.

He explained: “Our forward pack were unreal. They set a good foundation for our backs to strike off and I was lucky enough to be on the end of a couple of moves.

“Everyone has brought into the way we want to play.

“We’ve had some close encounters through the season but we haven’t been able to maintain the performance for a full 80 and I think as time has gone on, we’ve built more confidence, we’ve come closer together as a team and it’s starting to show out there on the pitch.”

Off the field, the former New Zealand Sevens star also admitted he’s warmed to his new home.

He added: “I love Worcester. I didn’t know a great deal about it before I arrived but now my wife and I are really enjoying it.

“The community, fans and all the players especially have been very welcoming and it’s a home away from home now.”
