Ryan – We stayed confident and it’s paying off

Dean Ryan says the confidence of the Club’s players and coaches to keep doing what they were doing when results were going against them has been a catalyst for one of their best ever runs in the Aviva Premiership.

Warriors recorded their third consecutive win on Saturday after seeing off a stubborn Harlequins side and took their run of form to four wins from five matches in the process.

And, according to Ryan, the belief has always been there.

He said: “I’m pleased for the Club. Some people were jumping around when it wasn’t working before Christmas but we stayed confident with it and kept working.

“Losing games we should have won like the game against Wasps was hard. It’s difficult to go into a changing room with a bunch of young lads who are desperate to win when you lose in the closing stages.

“We just wanted to keep playing well and trust that that would get us through.

“You just keep doing your job well, keep supporting each other and keep pushing each other to get better.”

Warriors dominated proceedings at Twickenham Stoop and rarely looked like losing against the 2012 champions.

And Ryan was full of praise for his players after the game.

He continued: “I thought we were great defensively to deprive Harlequins of a try. They’re probably the most dangerous side in the league on a dry day.

“They got a bit frustrated and that played into our hands. In the second-half we played with decent intent and we kept the ball off them.

“I’m surprised we didn’t get more from the possession we had in their half. We kept pushing at the end.”

And with Warriors now 17 points above basement side London Irish, Ryan insists his focus is only on growing the Club.

He added: “We all know that we’re trying to take this Club in a different direction so at some stage we’ve got to start rewriting the achievements of the past.

“I’ve challenge the boys again after Saturday's victory – it doesn’t stop just because we’ve won a game.”
