Round 20 of Aviva Premiership Rugby on 15, 16 and 17 April will be dedicated to the official charity of the Rugby Players’ Association (RPA), Restart Rugby.
Through Restart Rugby Weekend we’re hoping to raise in excess of £25,000 which will go towards supporting current and former RPA members through serious injury, rehabilitation, counselling and career transition for life after rugby.
As the players’ charity, Restart Rugby is also committed to supporting the core values of rugby from grassroots to the professional game, providing emotional, practical and financial support during challenging times for both players and their families as well as supporting community based initiatives to engage all ages with one of the world’s greatest team sports, as demonstrated by the biggest and best Rugby World Cup in 2015.
Each year the game becomes faster, stronger and the hits become more powerful. Thankfully, most players avoid serious injury but, when the worst happens, Restart Rugby is there to pick up the pieces for players and their families.
Restart Rugby and BT Sport’s The Supporters Club also fund Urban Rugby Squad, a ground-breaking new initiative run by Premiership Rugby and its clubs which will see over 1,000 young people aged 14-16 from disadvantaged communities across England given the opportunity to participate in regular sporting activity and personal development workshops that use rugby as inspiration on areas including anger management, drugs/alcohol misuse and sexual health.
