Cavubati can’t wait for Tigers test

Lock Tevita Cavubati admits he’s raring get out on the field ahead of Warriors’ final two Aviva Premiership games of the season against Leicester Tigers and reigning champions Saracens.

The massive second rower has been sidelined for the last two months but made an impressive comeback off the bench in Saturday’s clash with Wasps.

The Fijian almost battered his way to the tryline, and despite only playing 30 minutes, he was among the league’s top stats in offloads (three) and defenders beaten (four) at the weekend.

He said: “I was so excited to get on the pitch. All I wanted was to get my hands on the ball at every opportunity.

“I had a couple of good runs and remember looking at the tryline and wanting to reach out but I got caught just short.

“I’ve missed playing and now I just want to give it my all. It’s great to be back and I’m so excited to play more rugby.”

The 6ft 7in giant explained that he’d been working hard on his conditioning while not in match action, and now feels fresher and fitter than ever.

He continued: “I’ve been working really hard on my power and speed, doing lots of weights and conditioning work in the gym.

“The time away from playing has meant I’ve been able to recoup and I’m ready to go again.

“After working very closely with the backroom staff to make sure I can be in the best place possible, I feel much stronger and fitter than ever.”

Warriors’ next encounter is against title-chasing Leicester on Saturday 30 April at Welford Road.

The Tigers have a host of international stars across their squad but Cavubati insists he knows the kind of test that his side will face.

He added: “I know a lot of the guys that have come from the Pacific islands like Telusa Veainu, Peter Betham and Manu Tuilagi.

“We meet up and hang out still sometimes so I'm familiar with some of the threats that Leicester possess!

“There will be some big hits but I can’t wait. I will put my body on the line and hopefully we can pull off a result against one of the best sides in the league.”
