Warriors launch Birmingham initiatives

Worcester Warriors have launched two initiatives in Birmingham as the Club continues to engage with people all across the West Midlands.

On Monday 9 May, the Club, working alongside housing association Midland Heart, rolled-out the brand new Warrior ID programme in central Birmingham.

Warrior ID, aimed at teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19, will tackle issues such as unemployment, crime and disillusionment – three of the biggest challenges facing young people in society today.

The programme will be delivered by the Warriors Community Foundation in partnership with Midland Heart, who work in some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods to build new homes, strong communities and neighbourhood services for 70,000 customers across 55 local authority areas.

Warrior ID uses sport as a tool to help young people with resilience, self-reliance and confidence. It gives them the skills to get back into education, vocational training, apprenticeships and employment.

Warriors HITZ & Social Inclusion Manager Stuart Brooks said: “We are continuing to push our community projects far and wide and we are delighted to be taking these initiatives into Birmingham.

“Warrior ID is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters in Birmingham to be given guidance and valuable life skills, which will hugely benefit them in the future.”

In September Warriors will also be launching their 2nd Chance initiative in partnership with Five Ways Sports Club in Kings Norton to bring teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18 a programme which combines rugby and education.

The programme will offer aspiring sports enthusiasts the opportunity to develop their rugby and coaching skills under the guidance of top-level rugby coaches, while offering a BTEC Level Three qualification in sport.

Stuart added: “2nd Chance enables young sports enthusiasts to continue their progression in a professional environment to give them the best chance of succeeding in sport.

“It also gives the Club a fantastic opportunity to grow their brand in Birmingham and engage with new audiences of supporters and players.”
