Warriors Community Foundation #LeadTheWay with mixed ability rugby

The Warriors Community Foundation held its first ever mixed ability rugby match at Sixways earlier this month.

The mixed ability Shropshire Rebels team took-on Sarries RFC before the Warriors first-team played Saracens in the final Aviva Premiership encounter of the season.

The project is part of the Warriors Community Foundation's #LeadtheWay Campaign, which has been created to help and support people who live in isolation.

The development of mixed ability rugby is key to the Foundation's activity and Sixways is set to host the first ever mixed ability tournament in October

The objective of mixed ability rugby is to engage people who have participation barriers which makes it difficult for them to take part in sports.

These barriers include learning difficulties, physical disabilities, age and gender.

Mixed ability rugby brings people together from any background or ability to engage in physical activity and meet new people on a regular basis.

Head of Warriors Community Foundation Carol Hart said: “We were excited and honoured for Sixways to host its first mixed ability match.

“We will be working hard to develop mixed ability rugby across the region next season starting off with the mixed ability tournament later this year.”
