Kennedy – We’re eyeing Premiership title

Worcester Valkyries Director of Rugby Donna Kennedy is setting her sights on the Women’s Premiership title this season.

Valkyries have finished in the top four in each of the last three campaigns which included their first-ever Premiership title back in 2012/13.

And Kennedy, the world-record caps holder in the women’s game, admits she has high hopes ahead of the new campaign.

She said: “I want us to win the Premiership. Why be in the competition without this aim?

“It’s a long season against the elite sides in the country but we are setting our sights high and we want to finish top at the end of the season.”

Kennedy won 115 caps with Scotland in a Test career spanning 17 years while she also tasted success with Worcester when they won their first-ever Women’s Premiership title.

She explained: “We’ll take each game at a time and work closely with the players in training to make sure they are improving week in week out.

“I think anything is possible with this team. We have strength and depth and I think these are really important factors to have when building a successful side.”

With the new campaign on the horizon, the former number eight insists her side know that expectations are high.

She continued: “These guys know that I have high standards and we are in this to win it. We genuinely are.

“I know it’s an old pun but we are capable of winning this Premiership and we have proven it before.

“We are the only club outside of London to have won the Premiership and my ambition is for us to do it again. I’m hoping this is the season for us.”
