Bregvadze named in Georgia squad to tour Pacific islands

Warriors hooker Jaba Bregvadze has been named in the 28-man Georgia squad for their first-ever tour of the Pacific islands.

The Lelos will play Tests against Samoa, Tonga and Fiji on the 11th, 18th and 24th of June respectively.

Bregvadze could well come up against fellow Warriors teammate James Johnston on Saturday 11 June as Georgia begin their schedule against Samoa.

Georgia Head Coach Milton Haig said: “Obviously it is a very important stage of our development. It is historic for Georgian Rugby because we’ve never been to the islands before, so this is our first venture.

“It will be the first time we’ve played all three Pacific islands teams in the Pacific and we are very excited about it.”

The Georgia boss has coached the side since 2012, having overseen five European Nations Cup titles, and completing the Grand Slam in four of them.

He added: “It is going to be a very tough task to beat Samoa, Tonga and Fiji at their home but this is the kind of environment we need to be in so that we can improve.

“We’ve got an experienced forward pack and backline. We’ve added a couple of young guys to blood them. When you look at this squad in general it’s very experienced and we picked an experienced squad as we know how hard this tour will be.”
