Cavubati’s Fiji claim Pacific Nations title

Tevita Cavubati helped Fiji claim their fourth successive Pacific Nations title with victory over James Johnston’s Samoa at the weekend.

The Fijians trailed 16-3 at half-time but mounted an impressive comeback to claim a 26-16 win with Cavubati playing the full match.

Johnston will be hoping his Samoa side can finish on a high when they play their final match against Tonga on Saturday.

Elsewhere Jaba Bregvadze helped Georgia defeat Tonga in Suva, with the European side scoring a last-minute try to claim a 23-20 victory.

In Monaco there was disappointment for Cooper Vuna, whose Tonga Sevens side finished tenth out of 16 and missed out on the final qualifying spot for the 2016 Olympics.

Tonga finished bottom of Pool A after losing 26-0 to Samoa, 31-12 against Ireland and 21-14 against Zimbabwe.

Vuna’s side did reach the Bowl final after seeing off South Korea and Uruguay but went down to Zimbabwe in the final.
