New surface excites winger Biggs

Work is continuing at Sixways to ensure the new Artificial Grass Pitch is ready for the start of the 2016/17 Aviva Premiership season in September.

Warriors sold off their former grass pitch to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice last month as they prepare for life on the new surface.

And winger Tom Biggs says the players are looking forward to running out on their new-look pitch..

He said: “I think the new pitch will be good to play on. We played on similar pitches last season against Newcastle and Saracens but our new pitch uses the latest technology so it will be a fantastic surface for the players.

“It should improve the quality of rugby, particularly when the weather gets a little bit worse in the winter months, so everyone is really looking forward to it.

“Hopefully it will produce a quicker paced game for supporters to watch.”

Away from Sixways, Warriors youngsters Jack Singleton, Huw Taylor and Andrew Kitchener all played starring roles earlier this summer to help the England Under 20s side lift the World Rugby Under 20 Championship trophy.

Taylor started every match for his country during the run to the final, while Singleton crossed the whitewash for two tries.

And Biggs has paid tribute to the Club’s younger players and Academy as a whole.

He added: “Those guys that were involved with the Under 20s did really well and everyone at the Club is delighted with their achievement.

“Some of the other Academy guys were unlucky to miss out on selection so it shows just how far our Academy has come in recent years.”
