REPORT | Leicester Tigers 34-13 Warriors

A clinical Leicester Tigers scored a late bonus-point try to ensure Warriors came away empty-handed from Welford Road in the Aviva Premiership.

Tigers led 20-0 at the break courtesy of well-taken tries for Tom Brady and Telusa Veainu aside ten points from the boot of Owen Williams.

Two Ryan Lamb penalties then brought Warriors back into the contest before Logovi’i Mulipola burrowed over.

Jaba Bregvadze then touched down off a driving maul for his first Club try and Lamb converted as Warriors sensed a bonus point but Graham Kitchener forced his way over late on to secure the fourth try and bonus point as Tigers killed the game.

Warriors had a promising spell in the early stages of the match but couldn’t make pressure count as they were pinged for holding on by the tryline and Williams soon punished them as he opened the scoring from the tee after nine minutes.

Lamb then had a chance to level the scores from near halfway but his flat, long-range effort fell just wide of the target.

Williams soon added another penalty and Tigers continued to mount the pressure as they missed a glorious opportunity out wide as Jamie Shillcock did well to show his attacker the touchline.

But it proved for little as Brady soon spotted a gap to skip past the Warriors defence and dived over under the sticks for Williams to add the extras.

Veainu then produced a moment of brilliance, taking the ball from his own half and shaking off tackles to race in next to the posts for an impressive individual score and Williams again made no mistake from the tee.

Warriors had a couple of opportunities with Dean Hammond and Perry Humphreys creating some inroads but some ill-discipline at the breakdown cost the visitors just short of the whitewash on more than one occasion, and they went in 20-0 down at the interval.

Carl Hogg’s side came out fighting after the break and Lamb got their first points of the day as he kicked a penalty from in front of goal.

Replacement Ben Te’o then crashed forward and after Tigers didn’t release him, Lamb landed another penalty.

Warriors searched for a comeback but couldn’t find a way through the Tigers defence and when the hosts managed to force their way back into the Worcester 22, replacement prop Mulipola looked to have gone over but he was held up as the visitors tried desperately to keep Leicester out.

But Mulipola soon got his try when he crossed from close range with Williams slotting another kick to make it 27-6 with 15 minutes remaining.

However, Warriors didn’t lie down and Bregvadze peeled off the maul for his first try for the Club and Lamb notched the conversion.

Hogg’s side sensed a possible bonus point at 27-13 but when Williams managed to dispossess Lamb, the fly-half raced towards the posts only for the outstretched Hammond to make a brilliant tackle to deny him.

But Tigers managed to secure their fourth and bonus-point score when former Warriors Academy lock Kitchener touched down from close range and Williams completed his 100 per cent kicking from the tee with the conversion to complete the win.

Warriors now look forward to European action for the next fortnight as they travel to Moscow next weekend to face Enisei-STM before welcoming Brive to Sixways on Saturday 22 October.
