Warriors prop Derrick Appiah admitted to having mixed emotions after scoring his first try for the Club in Saturday’s 19-12 defeat to Enisei-STM in Moscow.
After making his debut in the European Challenge Cup last season, the young Italian came off the bench against the Russians as he scored a cleverly-worked try in the corner.
But he revealed it was disappointing not to come away with the win this weekend.
He said: “It was an unbelievable feeling to score my first try. I got the ball in the corner from a lineout and just went straight to the line.
“The lads all cheered me on and congratulated me on my first score so it was a nice moment.
“The last time I scored was a couple of years ago in my last game for Mogliano so it’s been a while.
“I’m very happy with that but disappointed we lost the game as we felt we could come here and win.
“Enisei were a very strong, physical team of big boys. We are never happy with losing but hopefully we can beat them when they come to Sixways.”
Five Warriors made their debuts against Enisei with George de Cothi also making his second debut for the Club after rejoining the Academy in the summer.
And Appiah paid tribute to his young teammates.
He continued: “A lot of the young lads were excited to play their first senior game in a big European contest.
“The young boys did well against very physical opponents and they will gain valuable experience from today.”
Warriors welcome French side Brive to Sixways next Saturday (kick-off 3pm) as they look to pick up their first win in the competition and Appiah stressed that his side need to improve.
He explained: “We played well in parts against Enisei but there are some things we need to improve on ahead of next week.
“We made a few mistakes and we need to work hard to put them right.
“Brive are a very tough team and will have a lot of physicality in the scrum which will make it hard.
“They have some very experienced players but it’s another chance for us younger guys to play with a bit of freedom.
“We can do a lot better than last year and we want to win games in this competition.”
