Shillcock commits future to Warriors

Warriors Academy youngster Jamie Shillcock has committed his future to the Club by signing a new deal with the first-team.

Warriors have reiterated their intent to nurture young local talent by securing the signature of the 19-year-old, who made his Aviva Premiership debut just last month.

The versatile back, who can play at scrum-half, fly-half or full-back, was handed his first start for the Club in September against Bath Rugby where he impressed with two assists and two try-saving tackles.

The promising youngster then scored a brace of tries on his first home start against Sale Sharks, including a sublime solo effort as he raced 60 metres to the whitewash.

Shillcock made the headlines as a 17-year-old back in 2015 as he featured in Warriors’ RFU Championship semi-final second leg against London Scottish before going on to represent England Under 20s last winter.

His recent form has also seen him recalled to the England Under 20 squad alongside five of his fellow Warriors teammates.

Head Coach Carl Hogg said: “Jamie has been presented with a fantastic opportunity in the early stages of the season and he’s grabbed it with both hands.

“It’s not easy to step up to the pace and intensity of the Aviva Premiership but as a teenager, he has shown tremendous composure and ability at the top level.

“We are delighted he has recognised that Sixways is a place where young players can learn, develop and grow through the facilities and infrastructure, and importantly, where they know they will get opportunities.

“We look forward to working with him over the coming years to try and help him realise his full potential.”

Shillcock added: “It’s a dream come true for me to sign a professional first-team contract at my childhood club.

“It’s been a surreal start to the campaign and I’m delighted with how things have gone.

“There’s no place I’d rather be and I hope that I can push on and help this Club reach its goal of becoming one of England and Europe’s top teams.”
