Warriors show their support for county rugby

The representative men’s county rugby season starts this month, with Warriors supporting the ISKITZ 3 Counties Cup.

The Cup is contested by Greater Birmingham, Worcestershire & Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Defending champions Worcestershire & Herefordshire have kept faith with the same coaching team that led them to glory last season with Warriors Community Rugby Manager Steve Joslin part of that back-up team.

He is joined by Malvern College’s Nick Tisdale, who also coaches within the Warriors Academy. The coaching set-up is completed by RFU Community Coach Patrick Hill.

Greater Birmingham seniors have had a change of coaching team this season and are now led by Warriors Community Delivery Co-ordinator Matthew Jones. He is supported by Academy Coach Development Officer Jon Perks.

Shropshire make up the group and will be looking to avenge last season’s final defeat and have called upon the services of RFU Rugby Development Officer Scott Sturdy.

The season starts on Wednesday 19 April with Greater Birmingham entertaining Shropshire. This is followed by Worcestershire & Herefordshire’s first match at Upton RFC on Wednesday 26 April against the Greater Birmingham team.

This fixture will double as a memorial game for Nigel Banwell, the North Midlands president and great supporter of county rugby, who sadly passed away recently.

The twin county’s second fixture will be on Wednesday 3 May against Shropshire at Shrewsbury. The two top sides will then face each other in the ISKITZ 3 Counties final.
