Singleton set for England debut against Barbarians

Warriors hooker Jack Singleton will start for England in their Old Mutual Wealth Cup clash against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday (kick off 3pm, live on Sky Sports HD).

Singleton will make his England debut in the uncapped international match against a star-studded Barbarians team, while Warriors teammate Will Spencer has been named on the bench.

Nick Schonert and Ryan Mills, who have also been training with the England squad, miss out through injury.

England have named a strong squad for the encounter and include Chris Robshaw, Danny Care, George Ford, Jonny May and Mike Brown, who have 246 caps between them.

There are also eight uncapped players in the starting line-up as Josh Beaumont, Will Collier, Nick Isiekwe, Sam Underhill, Alex Lozowski, Sam James and Nathan Earle join Singleton for their first appearances.

England Head Coach Eddie Jones said: “I’m excited about this squad playing the Barbarians on Sunday.

“The players have trained really well with intensity over the last few weeks and now we need to put that onto the field this weekend.

“While we have some really experienced players starting the game there is a great opportunity for some of the younger players to show what they are about against a Barbarians team full of quality international players.

“We will be treating this game as a Test match and expecting the Barbarians to start the game quickly. This match will be crucial preparation ahead of our two-Test series against Argentina next month.”
