Gold looking for rewards for hard work

Gary Gold says his side will be looking for the ultimate reward for their hard work on Friday night when they travel to Kingsholm to face Gloucester Rugby.

Warriors will be searching for their first points of the campaign against their M5 rivals after early season defeats at the hands of Newcastle Falcons, Wasps and Exeter Chiefs.

And Warriors Director of Rugby Gold says his players need to step up and put in a good performance.

He said: “For us we want to get some confidence and rewards for our hard work. We need to put in a strong performance and hopefully that can lead to a result.

“We know what’s coming as Gloucester are also a team who want to play with ball in hand. We will go there with a huge amount of respect for them but I’d really like our guys to step up to the plate.”

Despite their winless start, Warriors matched last season’s Aviva Premiership finalists Wasps and Exeter for large spells of those matches.

And Gold insists his squad are in a good place to progress over the coming weeks.

He said: “We’ve shown patches that are good but our execution and kicking game has let us down at times. I’m really happy with the intent but we need to be more accurate.

“There’s a lot of character and heart but now we need to be a lot tougher on our errors and be better with ball in hand and what better opportunity than to go down to Kingsholm.”

Warriors were handed a boost this week with the news that influential scrum-half Francois Hougaard will return to the Club next week after spending time away with South Africa in the Rugby Championship.

And Gold admits his arrival at Sixways will lift the players.

He added: “We’ve had a bit of good news that Francois is going to return. He’ll be back next week and it’s a small shining light on the horizon. It’s a boost to the squad and the competition with what he brings.”
