Warriors AASE make it two wins from two

Warriors AASE side Worcester Sixth Form College made it back-to-back wins after triumphing over Sale Sharks’ Myerscough College 30-17 on Wednesday.

After beating Saracens’ Oaklands College in their opener, it means Warriors top the AASE Northern Group.

In their first home game of the season, Worcester started well with Jake Leonard slotting a 30-metre penalty to get the first points of the afternoon.

After a period of loose play from both teams, Warriors got hold of possession and freed up Rob Lester who powered his way over the line, beating two defenders in the process.

This was quickly followed by a Charlie Gamble try in the right-hand corner after an excellent attack which saw the ball move from the touchline and back again.

Myerscough then replied with a converted try of their own to make it 13-7 at half-time.

The hosts came out strongly in the second-half and hit an early penalty to make the score 13-10, but Lester showed his power once again by driving over the line after some slick handling from the backs and Jake Leonard converted.

Myerscough hit back instantly with a try of their own under the posts to make the score 20-17 but the last ten minutes was one-way traffic as the changes off the bench kept the play all in the home side’s half.

This resulted in a superb individual try for Morgan Monks and then Kai Lucas-Dumolo bagged his first try after a quick-tap penalty caught the Manchester college napping.

Warriors AASE Manager Ryan Watkins said: ‘’It wasn’t our best performance and we know we can play much better than that. But I can’t fault the work rate and effort the lads put in. It’s a great result.”

Worcester Sixth Form College are next in action away at Leicester Tigers’ Brooksby Melton College on Wednesday 27 September.
