Press Conference Notes – 31.10.17

Sam Vesty will be heading up Warriors ahead of this Friday night’s match against Sale Sharks in the Anglo-Welsh Cup at Sixways (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Warriors Backs Coach spoke to the media today. Here are the key points from the press conference:

  • Vesty believes Sale will be a tough physical battle on Friday night but the focus is on Warriors and their own game.
  • Vesty insists it is key for Warriors to put in a good performance and keep improving so that it gives them momentum going forward.
  • Dean Hammond was superb for the Cavaliers last week and despite not being picked for the first-team on Friday, he responded brilliantly when he was called upon on Saturday to face Harlequins.
  • There is lots of competition for places on the wing and that’s what keeps the standards up.
  • The Anglo-Welsh Cup provides a platform for young players to gain vital experience and gives opportunities for some Academy guys and those who need some gametime.
  • Some players are expected to make their returns from injury on Friday night.
  • Jonny Arr is out with concussion and is going through the return-to-play protocol.
  • Wynand Olivier is out for approximately eight to ten weeks with a hamstring injury.
  • David Denton is out for a week with a MCL knock.
  • Carl Kirwan has been forced out for approximately four months with a shoulder dislocation (opposite shoulder to previous injury).
  • Matti Williams fractured his hand in last week’s Cavaliers game and is out for approximately 4-5 weeks.
