Pennell awarded Testimonial Season at Sixways

Pennell looks forward to Testimonial Season

Chris Pennell will be recognised for his contribution to the Club with a Testimonial Season during the 2018/19 campaign.

Next season will be Pennell’s 12th as a first-team player and he will be celebrating with a whole host of events and fundraisers as he supports Diabetes UK, Acorns Children’s Hospice and the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust.

Pennell made his debut for the Club as a 20-year-old in 2007 and has gone on to become a key figure at Sixways.

He became a Warriors centurion against Harlequins in 2013 and will run out for his 200th appearance for the Club against the same opponents this Saturday.

Pennell has won promotion from the Championship twice during his time at Sixways and was nominated for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Season award in 2014.

Later that summer he was named in the England squad to tour New Zealand and made his international debut against the All Blacks at Eden Park.

Pennell said: “I am honoured to be awarded a Testimonial Season and I am looking forward to an enjoyable year.

“I would like to thank Warriors Chairman Bill Bolsover and the Supporters Club for their support ahead of next season.

“We’re really proud to be raising funds for three amazing charities and I’m very keen that we use the year to celebrate all the amazing things we have in Worcestershire.

“I would like to engage with the local community as much as possible and hopefully leave a legacy for the future.”

Warriors Chairman Bill Bolsover said: “Chris has shown exceptional loyalty to Warriors for more than a decade and stands for everything that is good about this Club.

“He continues to represent his hometown Club with huge passion and dedication and we look forward to getting behind what I’m sure will be a hugely successful Testimonial Season.”

The Testimonial Season starts on Sunday 1 July. For more information, please visit www.chrispennell.co.uk.

Arr will be hosting an End of Season Dinner on Friday 11 May, a Legends Game on Saturday 12 May and a Golf Day on Friday 15 June.

Warriors Director of Rugby Alan Solomons said: “Chris and Jonny embody the characteristics which make rugby the sport it is and they have both shown huge dedication to the Club for more than a decade.

“They are both fully deserving of their Testimonial Seasons and we hope supporters get behind Chris’ Season in the same way they have got behind Jonny’s.”
