The 2017/18 season | Excitement, passion and memories

Another season has come to an end at Sixways – and once again the campaign brought with it a rollercoaster of emotions to keep the Warriors faithful on the edge of their seats.

We’ve been provided with an abundance of excitement, we’ve witnessed bags of passion from every player who has worn the Blue and Gold jersey and we’ve made memories which will stay with us forever.

The side finished well above London Irish at the foot of the table and put in some huge performances to claim some famous victories throughout the campaign.

It certainly hasn’t been dull for supporters…

After a tough start to the campaign, Warriors got off the mark with a European Challenge Cup victory over Brive in October before picking up their first Aviva Premiership win against Northampton Saints in November.

And they backed up that victory over Northampton with a sensational win against play-off chasing Leicester Tigers a week later as Warriors battled to their first ever win at Welford Road.

The big games came thick and fast during a bitterly cold winter and Warriors were triumphant in another crucial clash as they saw off London Irish days before Christmas in Gary Gold’s final game at the helm.

Alan Solomons joined the Club in October and played a huge part in Warriors’ upturn in fortunes over the autumn before being appointed Director of Rugby at the end of 2017.

Solomons built on his good work in 2018 as he led Warriors to a first Premiership win over Exeter Chiefs in February before helping his side record further successes against Gloucester Rugby, Newcastle Falcons and Harlequins.

In fact after Solomons moved to Sixways Warriors won seven of their 16 Premiership games, averaging 2.94 tries per game.

The Warriors boss has also built a strong squad ahead of the 2018/19 campaign as he gets ready to welcome the likes of internationals Francois Venter, Cornell du Preez, Ashley Beck and Duncan Weir to the Club.

An array of Warriors players have also been recognised on the international front again this season and Ben Te’o, Josh Adams and David Denton were all involved in this season’s NatWest 6 Nations.

The speed of Adams’ rise to the top has been somewhat remarkable as he made his Wales debut in the opening game of the 6 Nations a little over 16 months after making his first-team debut for Warriors.

Adams has had a fine season in the Blue & Gold and finished the campaign as the Premiership’s joint top try-scorer after crossing the whitewash on 13 occasions and has been nominated for the Land Rover Discovery of the Season award. This week he was also called up to the Wales squad for their summer tour of the Americas.

Elsewhere Jonny Arr has been celebrating his Testimonial Season and made his 200th appearance for the Club in March’s clash with Sale Sharks.

Chris Pennell also become a double centurion against Harlequins last month and has been awarded a Testimonial Season next term.

We’ve said goodbye to a number of players in the last few days. Ben Howard and Max Stelling left Sixways after a combined 14 years at the Club, while Donncha O’Callaghan hung up his boots at the age of 39. Our best wishes go to every player who has departed Sixways this summer.

Thank you to every supporter who has cheered on the boys. It’s been enthralling – it always is. And you can bet your bottom dollar that next season will be even better.
