Laflin impressed by positive Valkyries

Worcester Valkyries full-back Vicky Laflin has praised the unity in the Tyrrells Premier 15s side this season.

Although Valkyries are still seeking their first win of the campaign Laflin has been impressed by the positive mood in the camp.

“People get surprised that our morale is so high. We’re quite a workmanlike club, we back each other, move onto the next job and try to push each other to work even harder to get that first win together,” Laflin said.

“We’re really starting to bond as a squad, we’re looking out for each other, putting our bodies on the line and its beginning to come together.”

This season, Valkyries have performed well during games, scoring four tries against Darlington Mowden Park Sharks as well as shutting out Saracens Women and Wasps Ladies for almost entire halves.

“We’re really focused on changing our mentality from a young team to being an overall good team,” Laflin said.

“We back ourselves and say, we are as good as the other teams in the league and believe that we can go out and beat them.

“I think that change in mentality is making us more confident as individuals and as a collective.

“By having a big pre-season, we were able to work on the fine details a lot more and gel as a team for a better start.

“The way we come out now and make teams work against us, once we can do that for 80 minutes, we’ll give a lot of teams a run for their money.”

Valkyries take a break this weekend before they return to Tyrrells Premier 15s action on Saturday October 13 when they welcome Harlequins Ladies to Sixways Stadium (kick-off 2pm).
