Josh Adams named in Wales squad

Warriors winger Josh Adams has been included in Wales’ squad for the four-match Under Armour Series Autumn Internationals next month.

Adams is one of 37 players named in the squad to prepare for the matches against Scotland (November 3), Australia (November 10), Tonga (November 17) and South Africa (November 24) all at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Adams, made his Wales debut against Scotland in the Six Nations in February and has since won three more caps. He impressed on the summer tour to Argentina and scored his first international try in the second Test in Santa Fe which helped Wales to a 30-12 victory.

The 23-year-old made his debut for Lllanelli in 2013 and made one appearance for Scarlets before moving to Warriors the following year.

Since he arrived at Sixways Adams has become a potent try-scorer. His try in the 52-7 victory over Bristol Bears nine days ago was Adams’ 20th in the Gallagher Premiership putting him level with Bryce Heem and Miles Benjamin on the all-time list of Warriors’ try-scorers in the competition.

Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland has included two uncapped players, Ospreys’ wing Luke Morgan and Leicester Tigers utility back Jonah Holmes, in the squad which will report for training on October 22.

Gatland said: “This autumn is the start of a 12-month countdown to the Rugby World Cup and it is a huge opportunity for the players.

“The players who performed and represented Wales so well in the summer deserve the opportunity again and we are really pleased with the depth we have built across the squad.

“We have added in a lot of experience with eight British & Irish Lions coming into the squad so there is a lot of competition for places.

“Some experienced players have missed out. The message to them is the door isn’t closed looking long term, it’s just a reflection of where we are depth-wise and the opportunity to look at other players.”
