Varley leads Valkyries Development XV fightback

Valkyries Development XV climbed to eighth in the Tyrrells Premier 15s Development League after they staged a stirring fightback to secure a 17-17 draw against Gloucester-Hartpury at Hartpury College on Saturday.

Valkyries were 10 points down early in the second half but some powerful carrying and excellent support play saw them score three tries to open up a 17-10 lead.

Captain Meg Varley led the fightback by scoring two of the Valkyries tries with loosehead prop Akina Gondwe crossing for the other. Fly-half Vicky Foxwell added a conversion.

In the first half Valkyries enjoyed plenty of possession but they were unable to convert it into points and it was Gloucester-Hartpury who went ahead just before the break when they capitalised on an error close to halfway.

The hosts doubled their lead early in the second half and scored again late on to deny Valkyries their second win of the season.
