Valkyries boost squad with Wallaroos lock Clough

Valkyries have boosted their Tyrrells Premier 15s squad with the signing of Australia lock and vice-captain Bec Clough.

Clough, 30, has joined Valkyries until the end of the season. She has family living in the area and will combine rugby with travelling during her stay in England.

Clough has represented the Wallaroos in three Women’s World Cups having made her international debut in 2009.
Valkyries Director of Rugby Roy Davies said: “It’s obviously exciting to be able to bring a player of Bec’s calibre to the club, and speaks volumes for the ambitions that we have at Worcester.

“As well as being a talented player, Bec brings huge leadership experience which I feel will be vital to continue to galvanise our young group.

“Bec is a top end signing and a world-class player.  She will add real quality to our squad and we hope to be in a position to announce some further additions soon.

“Our relationship with Warriors, and the support of the new owners means we are in a position to really move forward as a club, with full-time S&C and coaching support. It’s exciting times for us.”

Clough, who played netball and handball in her youth, joins Valkyries from Perth-based Western Force having played her formative rugby for Bathurst in her native Western Australia.

“I’m buzzing to get amongst the girls and play some good footy here in the Northern Hemisphere, which is something I’ve always wanted to do.  I’m looking forward to the English winter, trying to play some rugby in it and hopefully getting some W’s on the board with the Valkyries,” Clough said.
