Tutton admits to shock at Valkyries debut

By Art de Roche

Valkyries newcomer Kenzie Tutton has admitted that her debut in Sunday’s Tyrrells Premier 15s match against Wasps at Sixways came as a shock to her.

The Wales Under-18s full-back was signed from Nelson last week and was given a baptism of fire as she went straight into the side against Wasps.

Tutton made her debut alongside two more new recruits, former Firwood Waterloo flanker Katie Jenkins and fly-half Millie Williams,  a signing from Cardiff Blues and Llandaff North, who both came off the bench.

“It was great to get in with the girls and get some game time. To be honest it was a bit of a shock to come straight into the first team and start but it was good to get a runout,” Tutton said.

“I knew a lot of the girls from uni. I spoke to them about the set-up and the Club’s plans moving forward which were both very appealing to me.”

That bond with her new teammates was clear to see and Tutton explained why that is so important.

“ Communication is really key. To be loud and have each other’s support,” she said.

“Even if at that moment in time, you might not be involved in the play, just to have that communication helps the flow of the game.”

This weekend, Valkyries head to Surrey Sports Park where they will face Harlequins Ladies on Saturday seeking their first win in the competition.

“I think the key going into the weekend is not to panic,” Tutton said.

“Our backline can do well when we’re released, we need to stick to our processes, secure and recycle the ball and we’ll be able to move forward from there.”
