Warriors’ owners welcome Premiership Rugby investment

Warriors’ owners have welcomed the landmark partnership between Premiership Rugby and investment advisory firm CVC Capital Partners.

The partnership will see significant investment by CVC Capital Partners Fund VII (“CVC Fund VII”) into Premiership Rugby in return for a minority shareholding.

“We believe that this is very positive news for club rugby in England and will inject major investment into the club game alongside the current support provided by club owners and Premiership Rugby,” said Warriors’ Owners in a statement.

“The investment supports the ambition to grow the Gallagher Premiership both domestically and internationally and has the potential to be game-changing for professional rugby in England.

“The partnership with CVC will build on the success of the last five years and will help with the longer-term focus of the competition as well as helping to develop infrastructure for fans and partners and to open up potential new audiences.

“We have seen in the time that we have been involved with Warriors that Premiership Rugby is a fantastic global sport with the potential for further growth.

“This major investment into the club game alongside owners and Premiership Rugby will herald a new era for the sport.

“CVC is making an investment in the commercial PRL business, with minimal involvement in sporting and regulatory decisions.

“The structure of the deal ensures that there is an alignment of interest between CVC and the PRL clubs is strong. Only if the sport does well, does CVC’s investment increase in value.

“CVC is a company which has a very impressive track record of investing in and helping expand sports and entertainment businesses including Moto GP, Formula One, Merlin Entertainments, Virgin Active, Sky Betting & Gaming and Stage Entertainment.

“CVC support our vision and that of Premiership Rugby of growing the sport. Investment, whether it be in stadia, in digital content or in a whole variety of areas, is something that then gives us an opportunity to catapult into the next stage.”
