Academy coaches prepare for marathon to support Acorns

Academy coaches Mike Hill and Gordon Ross are preparing to run this year’s London Marathon to raise money for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The duo have been training hard since late last year when they took up their places to support Acorns.

As well as building their running distance on the roads, their training has included cycling and gym work in Warriors’ High Performance Centre.

Mike and Gordon are hoping to raise £5,000 between them and are hosting a Curry and Quiz Night at Sixways in April to raise money. Further details of the event will be announced in March.

Gordon said: “Mike and I visited the hospice in Worcester before Christmas and knew we had to run the marathon to help out.

“During our visit we were completely blown away not only by the facilities but by the care and support offered to the children and their families.

“Our Acorns Ambassador Niall Annett has arranged for us to go and do some volunteering so we are looking forward to spending some more time with everyone at the hospice.

“We’re both training hard at the moment and the fabulous February sunshine certainly helped us stay motivated during the long runs.”

Mike added: “I’ve had a couple of injuries during the training but the Academy physios at the Club have been great and they’ve ensured my training can keep progressing ahead of the big race.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support and we are extremely grateful to anyone who is able to donate and help out this amazing charity.”
