Hat-trick for Davies in England win

Valkyries captain Lark Davies scored a hat-trick of tries in England’s 40-14 victory over Barbarians Women in their historic first match at Twickenham.

Hooker Davies lined up alongside her Sixways team-mate Lydia Thompson, who returned to the England side after she missed the Six Nations through injury.

They found themselves in opposition to two more Warriors, wing Jasmine Joyce and tighthead prop Laura Keates, for the first-ever meeting with Barbarians Women in front of a 17,902 crowd.

Davies crossed for her first try from an early driving maul and her second came from a pick-and-go attack close to the line which gave England a 28-0 lead at the break.

The Barbarians hit back with two converted tries early in the second half but Davies completed her hat-trick when she crossed from a rolling maul off the back of a lineout.

The Barbarians match was part of England’s preparations for the Women’s Rugby Super Series later this month when they will face the best five sides in the world – New Zealand, France, Canada and USA – in San Diego.
