Davies relishing challenging start for Warriors Women

Warriors Women Director of Rugby Roy Davies is relishing the prospect of facing three of last season’s top four sides in the first four weeks of the 2019/20 Tyrrells Premier 15s season.

Warriors Women – formerly Worcester Valkyries – ended last season with a flourish with back-to-back victories over Firwood Waterloo and Darlington Mowden Park and confidence is high after a month of pre-season training.

Warriors Women will open their campaign with a trip to London to face Wasps Ladies, who finished fourth last season, on the weekend of September 21-22 and then host Harlequins Women – who finished second as Harlequins Ladies last season – at Sixways on the weekend of September 28-29.

A trip to Richmond on the weekend of October 5-6 will be followed by a tough assignment at defending champions Saracens on the weekend of October 12-13.

“It’s always exciting to see the new fixtures and it will be good to challenge ourselves against three of last season’s top four teams in the first month. It’ will give us a good gauge of where we are off the back off a positive preseason,” Davies said.

“We have a lot of away games in the first block of fixtures which will be an excellent opportunity for new players to spend additional time with their team-mates and bring the group closer together.

“There are also lots of potential opportunities for double-headers with Warriors men as the season goes on which will hopefully give us a platform to reach a wider audience and promote both our own programme, and the women’s game in general.”

The club will be working with Premiership Rugby to actively find opportunities for double-headers involving both Warriors Women and men with the Gloucester-Hartpury game on the weekend of March 21-22 a likely opportunity.

One confirmed double-header at Sixways will be on the weekend of March 21-22 when Warriors Women host Gloucester-Hartpury while Warriors take on Gloucester in the Gallagher Premiership.

Warriors Women will be at home only three times in the first half of the Tyrrells Premiership season but they will be counter-balanced by six home matches in an exciting second half of the campaign with Richmond (January 11-12), Saracens (January 18-19), Gloucester-Hartpury and Darlington Mowden Park Sharks (March 28-29) the visitors in successive rounds.

Entry to Warriors Women home matches is free for all Warriors Season Ticket Holders.
