Brace for Bryan in Warriors’ AASE team defeat

Stourport High School, Warriors’ AASE League team, were beaten 40-19 by Brooksby College – their Leicester Tigers counterparts – in their second match of the season.

It was a game of two distinct halves with Stourport dominating the first period with a gutsy defensive display which kept the heavy Brooksby side at bay for long periods.

An excellent defensive read from Tobi Wilson produced a long-ranger interception try which Jai Crippin converted.

Outstanding defence thwarted Brooksby again and the ferocity of Stourport’s tackling forced a turnover from which Jonty Monk and Jack Lewis combined to set up wing Rio Bryan who danced up the touchline, went round his opposite number and went over under the posts with Crippin again converting.

Brooksby hit back with a converted try of their own but Bryan cancelled it out with another well-taken try which gave Stourport a 19-7 lead at the break.

But Brooksby drew level in the second half and then took control in a decisive last ten minutes when they scored three converted tries against the run of play.

Stourport will take heart from a gutsy performance as they prepare for their next match against Myerscough College – Sale Sharks’ AASE team – at Sixways on Wednesday September 18 (kick-off 4.00pm).
