Fidow’s quarter-final hopes ended by hosts

Warriors’ wing Ed Fidow saw his hopes of a Rugby World Cup quarter-final appearance extinguished by a 38-19 defeat by hosts Japan in their third Pool A match in Toyota on Saturday.

Japan’s bonus point victory keeps them in the hunt for a place in the last eight while Samoa will have only pride to play for when they face Ireland in Fukuoka in their final pool match next Saturday.

Fidow started for Samoa for the third World Cup match running and played the full 80 minutes but was unable to add to his tally of ten tries in a productive start to his international career.
