Warriors AASE team fall to league leaders

Warriors AASE team, Stourport High School, were beaten 59-7 by North League leaders Gosforth Academy – their counterparts from Newcastle Falcons – in their latest match at Sixways.

Stourport always knew that this would be a tough assignment and so it proved as Gosforth scored two well-worked tries inside the first five minutes to open up a 14 points lead.

Stourport with a neat kick from Jonty Monk which Ben Ralph pounced on. The attack was sustained by strong carries from Charlie Irish and Jack Lewis inside the 22 but Gosforth’s defence repelled the attacks before they won turnover ball and lifted the siege.

Gosforth quickly turned defence into attack and scored two more converted tries to double their lead before half-time.

It was a similar story in the second half with Gosforth converting their attacks into tries although Stourport’s efforts were eventually rewarded when Wil Llewellyn and Fin Thomas created some space for Jai Crippin to go close, before Jack Lewis finished  off from close range with Crippin adding the conversion.

Stourport players wore their new playing kit, generously been sponsored by Montel Civil Engineering, for the first time.

Stourport play their final league match on Wednesday October 16 when they travel to play Bishop Burton College – Yorkshire Carnegie’s AASE team.
