Warriors players and staff are getting hairy to raise money for Movember this month.
Marco Mama, Jono Lance and Cornell du Preez are among the players who are growing moustaches this month to raise money for and awareness of men’s health.
With the help of former Warriors player Afeafe Haisila Lokotui, who is now a barber and plays for National 2 North side Stourbridge, the three shaved off their beards in preparation for the Movember challenge. Check out the video here.
Organised by prop Conor Carey and lock Justin Clegg, the players are encouraging fans to donate to their fun-raising page.
“We thought as a team it would be one of the charities we wanted to support. There’s a lot of different teams in the country doing it as well,” Carey said.
“About 80 per cent of the squad are doing it, we have a buy-in which is smaller than the buy-out. If the boys don’t want to do it, we’ve asked them to make a donation to the page.”
It is not only the players who will attempting to ‘grow a mo’ this month, with members of the club’s office staff also raising money.
The Movember charity started in Australia in 2003 and has since grown to over five million taking part worldwide, to raise awareness about men’s health, in particular prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health and suicide prevention.
The charity aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 per cent by 2030.
