Mike Hall, Manager of The Three Pears Warriors Academy, was delighted with Cavaliers flying start to their Premiership Rugby Shield campaign with a 47-15 win over Sale Jets at Sixways on Monday evening.

Cavaliers gave Jets no time to recover from a difficult journey, which led to the kick-off being put back 30 minutes, as they ran in seven tries in an impressive team performance.

Full-back Scott van Breda contributed 20 points – including two of the tries – before he rejoined Isuzu Southern Kings on loan for Saturday’s Guinness Pro-14 match against Connacht in Galway.

“I thought it was a really strong performance. There was a good combination of a few guys who are pushing for first team spots mixed in with a few Academy guys that are looking to get experience at that level,” said Hall.

“The coaches asked them to make this a tough place to play and the players set their stall out from the first play of the game where they took the game to Sale.

“We knew it would be tough at the breakdown but the boys were really good there and we played some really good stuff.

“We scored some great tries where we moved the ball but we also scored tries where we were direct and physical through the forwards.

“We had a good balance with some of the senior guys leading from the front and a few of the Academy guys getting some good experience. Also the way we mixed it up, backs and forwards, so it was a very pleasing performance overall.”

Cavaliers are next in action in the Premiership Rugby Shield on Monday December 16 when Wasps A visit Sixways (kick-off 7.30pm).

Admission to Cavaliers home matches is free for Warriors Season Ticket Holders and under-16s, £5 for everyone else.
