Cavaliers set for top-of-the-table clash

Tom Howe will be back in action for Cavaliers for Saturday’s Premiership Rugby Shield Northern Conference top-of-the-table clash against Gloucester United at Kingsholm (kick-off 12.00pm).

Howe has scored four tries in his last two Warriors appearances, including one against Dragons in last week’s European Challenge Cup match in Newport.

He returns to Cavaliers duty in place of Samoa international Ed Fidow who failed a head injury assessment in the 75-21 victory over Wasps A after he had scored a hat-trick of tries.

Gareth Simpson, who scored Cavaliers’ eleventh and final try against Wasps, starts at fly-half against Gloucester with Luke Scully moving to the centre.

There are three changes to the pack with hooker Isaac Miller and tighthead prop Richard Palframan brought into the front row and Morgan Monks on the blindside flank in place of Marco Mama.

Mama played the first 40 minutes against Wasps on Monday in his comeback after six weeks out with a dead leg but was not considered for the trip to Gloucester.

Three members of Warriors Under-18s team – Jack Forsythe, Fin Smith and Seb Atkinson – are on the bench for Cavaliers.

Saturday’s game pits the only two unbeaten sides in the Northern Conference against each other. Gloucester United have also recorded two bonus point wins, the latest at Northampton Wanderers on Monday, but Cavaliers top the table on points difference.
