Calculators at the ready as Warriors seek last eight place

Calculators will be at the ready when Warriors face Castres Olympique in their final European Challenge Cup Pool One match at Sixways on Friday (kick-off 8.00pm).

Warriors, Castres and Dragons are all vying for places in the quarter-finals with only the pool winner guaranteed to progress.

The top three runners-up from the five pools, calculated on match points, will also progress to the last eight and there is a strong likelihood that one of them will come from Warriors’ pool.

Castres currently top Pool One with 18 points followed by Dragons and Warriors with 15 points each.
Dragons play winless Enisei-STM at Rodney Parade on Friday and will be hot favourites to secure a bonus point win which would take them to 20 points.

In that event Warriors would need to beat Castres with a try bonus point to make the quarter-finals.

Should Warriors, Castres and Dragons all finish on 20 points, Warriors and Castres would progress by virtue of their record in the head-to-head meetings between the three clubs.

But the picture would become more complicated if Warriors were to win but not secure a try bonus point.
Warriors would then have to await 24 hours for the results of Scarlets’ trip to London Irish in Pool Two, Edinburgh’s home match against winless Agen in Pool Three and Pau’s home match against unbeaten Pool Five leaders Leicester Tigers to discover whether 19 points is sufficient to progress.
