Lydia Thompson named in England Six Nations squad

Lydia Thompson has been named in the England Six Nations squad for the Women’s Six Nations which kicks-off in February.

The Warriors Women wing has been in great form this year and has helped her side claim their three Tyrells Premier 15s wins so far this campaign.

Thompson, 27, has won 45 England caps she marked her debut in spectacular fashion with a hat-trick of tries against Spain eight years ago.

She was awarded a full-time England contract last year, Having missed the 2019 Six Nations because of injury, Thompson made a successful return to action in the Super Series in San Diego last summer.

“We’ve named a squad that certainly reflects not only the immense experience in the English women’s game but also some of the outstanding young talent that we are now seeing emerge from the Tyrrells Premier 15s,” said England coach Simon Middleton.

“In terms of the overall squad, we are looking forward to seeing how this group, especially those who have emerged over the last 18 months, take the next step onto more senior roles and are pushing to be starters.

“We know we have a tough route in this year’s competition. We are missing some key players but know this presents a good opportunity for our wider squad who we have full belief in. We are looking forward to getting out to France which is always a great contest and starting our campaign in Pau.”
