SIXWAYS TO HOST UNDER-18S FINALS DAY

Sixways Stadium will be the venue for the Premiership Rugby Under-18s Academy Finals Day on Sunday February 16, with Warriors Under-18s very much in the running to be involved in the showpiece event.

Warriors would seal their place at Finals Day with victory over Yorkshire Carnegie on Saturday February 8, the top three teams from the Northern Conference and the Southern Conference earning their right to make the shake-up.

Sixways has played host to an England Under-20s match as well as the Premiership Rugby 7s in recent years, underlining the club’s ability to stage high profile rugby events.

Warriors Under-18s have won three out of their last four games to put themselves in contention for Finals Day thanks to victories over Wasps, Northampton Saints and Newcastle Falcons.

A try bonus point against Northern Conference league leaders Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on Saturday was also crucial for Warriors, who sit in third place a point ahead of Midlands rivals Wasps.

Academy coaches Gordon Ross and Mike Hill have been impressed with the performance levels from their young squad over the course of the campaign, with Hill adding: “The lads have been improving week in week out and we have shown superb character to string together three wins on the bounce.

“Despite losing at Leicester on Saturday, I was delighted with our fightback in the second half and it was great to claim a try bonus point with the last play of the game.

“We now have an important game at home to Yorkshire Carnegie to focus on and I know that the boys are itching to make Finals Day at Sixways.”

A number of present Premiership Rugby stars cut their teeth in the Academy League, with Louis Rees-Zammit, Manu Vunipola and Marcus Smith all featuring in Finals Day.

Entry for Finals Day is free of charge for everyone.
