ETHAN KINNEY | WARRIORS WOMEN HEAD OF STRENGTH & CONDITIONING Q&A

With the ever-changing situation of Covid-19, Warriors Women Head of Strength and Conditioning Ethan Kinney answers questions about what the players will be doing away from Sixways.

Ethan, what is the current situation within the Warriors Women set-up?

We’re having to adapt to the way in which the situation is moving globally, which obviously makes it more difficult in terms of getting some serious strength training into the girls. The next couple of weeks will see the girls doing some sprint mechanic work, plyometric exercises and body weight exercises so that they are getting some strength stimulus. We also need to keep on top of their running conditioning too as best we can.

Obviously, all these training measures are geared towards them training individually, ensuring that we are abiding by what the government have told us to do.

What support will the girls have in terms of their health and wellbeing?

Will, our academy nutritionist will be in touch with the girls regarding their diet, especially given that the intensity of their training will no longer be there. There will be guidance on how they can modify their food intake.

The girls have also been sending me messages with any questions they may have and our Head of Medical is monitoring the girl’s wellness. It’s going to be a multi-phased approach to how we keep in touch with the girls from a mental standpoint as well as a physical one.

They know that they have someone on the end of a phone that they can talk to in order to help with the isolation side of things.

What advice would you give to anyone in society during these difficult times?

Keep fit and active as much as you can and wash your hands regularly. Also, appreciate the time you spend with your family and friends and support one another. They are only on the end of a phone – we’re all in the same boat and it’s important that we appreciate the time that we have together.
