LYNDSAY O’DONNELL NAMED WARRIORS WOMEN CLUB CAPTAIN

Lyndsay O’Donnell has been named Warriors Women Club Captain ahead of the 2020/21 Allianz Premier 15s season.

O’Donnell, 26, who played a key role in leading her side to three home wins on the spin last season before the campaign was curtailed, is proud to have been given the honour ahead of Saturday’s Allianz Premier 15s opener at Saracens Women (2pm).

“I’m really glad to have been asked to be Club Captain,” said the Stirling-born second-row.

“My role will be slightly different this year as Jo is really keen to bring different leaders through on matchday, so I can focus on myself a bit more.

“Overall, I’m really looking forward to being Club Captain and helping the team build on our strong finish to the season last time out.”

O’Donnell has represented Scotland 15 times and was part of the Warriors Women side that won the Premiership in 2013.

Warriors Women Director of Rugby Jo Yapp added: “Lyndsay led the team really well last season on and off the pitch. She brings really positive energy to the team and helps to drive the standards.

“She’s an experienced player who leads from the front.”

Relishing this weekend’s trip to the capital, O’Donnell, a Chartered Physiotherapist said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back on the pitch and we’re really excited at the prospect of putting everything that we’ve worked on in training into action come Saturday.

“I’m also really excited to see how our new signings perform as well as those players who have come through our Centre of Excellence.

“It’s just great to be back with the squad and see everyone bonding and getting to know each other. We’ve strengthened the squad in a lot of areas and we’re expecting a hard game against Saracens this weekend – we just need to look at what we’ve been doing and despite not playing any pre-season fixtures, it will be a really good marker to see where we are at.”
