WARRIORS UNDER-18S TO FACE EXETER THIS WEEKEND

Warriors Under-18s make a welcome return to action this Saturday when they take on Exeter Chiefs Under-18s at Sixways behind closed doors in the first of four standalone fixtures to be played between now and the end of May (kick-off 2pm).

Locking horns with Gloucester at Cheltenham Tigers on Friday May 7 (kick-off 7pm), the Three Pears Academy then travel to Cobham RFC to face Harlequins on Saturday May 22 where there will also be an under-17s fixture.

Warriors complete their schedule with a home game against Bristol Bears on Sunday May 30 (kick-off 1pm).

Due to COVID-19, the budding stars of the future have been without a game since their Premiership Rugby Finals Day triumph over Saracens in February 2020. Warriors, who finished second in the regular 2019/20 Northern Conference campaign, secured a 29-17 victory over the north London club, Harry Spencer running in a hat-trick.

Academy Manager Mike Hall said: “It has been a very difficult year for our academy and having such a long time away from the game has been hard.

“These games are very important to us as it gives our under-18s players the opportunity to pull on the Warriors jersey as a group for the last few times.

“It will be a great opportunity for us to have a look at those players we haven’t seen competitively for over 14 months and it will be interesting to see how they have progressed individually.

“Ultimately, this is about our players getting back out onto the pitch and playing the game that they love, while getting back to some semblance of normality.”
