Warriors DiSE teams back with a bang

Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre, Warriors’ Diploma in Sporting Excellence team, enjoyed a double at first and second XV level over Hereford Sixth Form College in their first matches in more than a year.

Stourport’s First XV triumphed 47-23 in their friendly with the Second XV defeating Hereford 40-5.

Fergus Downes ran in four of the First XV’s seven tries with the others coming from Rio Bryan, Ben Ralph and Tom Bullock.

For Stourport’s Second XV Carl Membrilla and Jay Webster each scored two tries against Hereford with George Evans and Sam Brooks also crossing.

Man of the Match Matthew Smith converted five of the six tries and impressed with his tactical kicking.

The DiSE scheme at Stourport is a joint partnership between Warriors and the school and is part of a national network of similar relationships between Gallagher Premiership clubs and local schools and colleges.

The programme combines rugby training with academic study with the students having the opportunity to impress England Under-18s coaches in matches played in a formal RFU national competition against other DiSE schools and colleges.

The aim of the programme is to provide a pathway into the Three Pears Warriors Academy and fits in with schedules of boys who are already in the academy system.
