Warriors sign wing Jack Johnson

Wing Jack Johnson has become Warriors’ 12th new signing for the 2021/22 season.

Johnson, 22, will arrive at Sixways from Greene King IPA Championship club Hartpury having also represented them in their British Universities and Colleges Sport Championship-winning campaigns between 2017 and 2019.

“We are pleased that we are bringing Jack into our programme,” said Warriors Head Coach Jonathan Thomas.

“When we look at recruitment we are looking at people that we feel can add value and grow within our environment.

“Jack is someone that we have been impressed with by both watching him play and also on footage.

“Having spoken to him we feel that he is someone with the right attitude and mindset to really thrive in our environment.

“We are excited to give him the opportunity to develop his potential.”

Johnson, who is 6ft 4ins tall, was a member of Harlequins EPDG while he was at Cranleigh School and was capped by England Students in 2019.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family and I’m looking forward to the season ahead and showing everyone what I’m about,” Johnson said.

“I’m excited to be a part of the vision of Alan Solomons and Jonathan Thomas for the future at Worcester Warriors.”

“Everyone has been very welcoming and there’s a good, friendly atmosphere.”

Johnson will join Scotland wing Duhan van der Merwe (Edinburgh Rugby), England international scrum-half Willi Heinz (Gloucester Rugby), Wales hooker Scott Baldwin (Harlequins), Wales fly-half Owen Williams (Red Hurricanes) Tonga number eight Sione Vailanu (Wasps), tighthead prop Christian Judge and scrum-half Will Chudley (both Bath Rugby) and tighthead prop Jack Owlett (Wasps) among the new faces at Sixways next season.

Wing Harri Doel (Scarlets), number eight Kyle Hatherell (Jersey Reds) and tighthead prop Jay Tyack (Cornish Pirates) have already joined and made their debuts for Warriors in recent weeks.

“JJ is an outstanding young talent. He has all the attributes of a top-flight wing, being big and powerful with real top end pace,” said Warriors Director of Rugby Alan Solomons.

“I have no doubt he will make his mark here at Warriors. He is also a terrific young lad, who will fit in well. We all look forward to his arrival in the summer.”
