Ollie Lawrence scores first international try in England win

Warriors pair Ollie Lawrence and Ted Hill helped England to a 43-29 win over a tenacious USA in the first of their summer Tests at Twickenham.

Centre Lawrence started and scored his maiden international try in his seventh match for England after 15 when he showed pace and power to finish off after full-back Freddie Steward had delivered a perfectly-timed pass.

It was a ‘cheeky’ score as pulled down Lawrence’s shorts in a desperate attempt to stop him scoring the try.

Lawrence had a busy – but brief – afternoon as he was moved to the left wing after only nine minutes after Max Malins suffered a shoulder injury and he then required treatment himself after he went down following a clash of heads in the 32nd minute.

Lawrence was taken off for a head injury assessment and did not re-appear forcing England, who went into the match with six forwards on the bench, into a further reshuffle of their back line.

Hill won his second cap when he came on as a 48th minute replacement for lock Josh McNally making it the first time that two Warriors players had appeared for England in the same international.

Hill had an industrious half hour as England, who included 12 new caps in the matchday squad, scored seven tries and the USA responded with four of their own in an entertaining second half.

England play their second and final Test of the summer against Canada at Twickenham on Saturday July 10.
