Warriors Women strengthen squad

Vicky Laflin and Alex Callender are the latest players to commit their future to Warriors Women ahead of the 2021/22 Allianz Premier 15s season.

The duo have been an integral part of Warriors’ resurgence in recent years and follow Lydia Thompson, Alex Matthews, Jade Shekells and Laura Keates in extending their stay at Sixways.

Lightning-quick wing Laflin, 21, who has represented England at under-20 level, was named Warriors’ Most Improved Player at the end of the curtailed 2018/19 campaign and took her game to new heights last season with some standout tries.

Racing in for an intercept try at Saracens on the opening day of last season, Laflin’s ability to turn defence into attack is key part of her game.

“I’m so happy to continue playing for Worcester,” said Laflin.

“It’s such a great club with amazing people there’s nowhere else I’d rather play.”

Meanwhile, Callender inks new terms on the back of representing Wales 7s in Lisbon and Moscow following a stellar season in Warriors blue.

The all-action back-row has represented Wales ten times and is delighted to re-sign with Warriors, adding: “I’m absolutely buzzing to play for Warriors for another season and I’m really looking forward to being able to express myself on and off the field in an environment where I can really thrive.

“We are building something really special here and I’m looking forward to helping the team realise its ambitions.”

Lead Coach of Warriors Women Sian Moore said: “We are thrilled that Vicky has re-signed with us. She leads the backline not only in capped appearances, but also in line breaks.

“With back-to-back impressive performances last season, we are really eager to see what the coming season has in store for her.”

New Forwards Coach Liza Burgess added: “We are delighted that Alex has extended her stay with us for the upcoming season.

“Her physical presence, work-rate and leadership is crucial for us and we are excited to see her continue to make a huge impression in the Allianz Premier 15s.”
